At this point I needed to apply self etching primer to all of the bare metal surfaces. I used Dupont DP90LF, sprayed with a small inexpensive touch up gun. For stuff like this that is going to see sandpaper, this gun works great, is easy to clean and is nice for getting into tight spots. I have had great results with the DP90 in the past.
