Final Assembly - Steering Column Installation (September 2, 2013)


Nothing too exciting here, other than the fact that this is the "final" install. I must have put this in and taken it out a couple dozen times by now! I had painted this a while back, along with the inner fenders and core support. One thing I haven't documented here was the seal at the firewall. If you recall, I closed up the big kidney shaped OEM hole in the firewall and have just a 3 1/8" round hole for the steering column to pass through. It will utilize a neoprene seal. The seal is made by the Kennard Company and they are available from McMaster-Carr.

Here you can see the seal. These are nice as they allow shafts to penetrate at odd angles in relation to the surrounding bulkhead
(that braided steel line will go up to the clutch master cylinder).
